Hypnotherapy for Migraines

Is the tension, fatigue and pain becoming overwhelming?

Migraines are a complex neurological condition that can significantly disrupt daily life. My hypnotherapy for migraines offers a unique approach to managing and reducing the frequency and intensity of migraine episodes. Understanding that migraines often have both physical and psychological components, I tailor our therapy to address these multifaceted needs.

Through Clinical Hypnotherapy, I aim to tap into the subconscious mind, identifying and addressing potential migraine triggers and stressors that may contribute to migraines. My approach is not only about managing pain but also about enhancing overall wellbeing. I use powerful hypnosis techniques that will help you to tune out the pain, and help you focus on relaxation techniques and stress reduction strategies.

What is a Migraine?

A migraine is far more than just a regular headache. The pain can be so intense that it disrupts your entire day or week. Migraines often present as deep, throbbing pressure behind the eyes or on one side of the head.

Those who suffer from migraines may also experience nausea and dizziness. It’s common advice to stay in a dark, quiet room during an episode. In the UK, about 10 million people live with migraines, but not everyone fully understands the condition.

Migraines can impact your professional life, sleep, and mood. If you’re one of the 10 million, hypnotherapy is an effective treatment for migraine relief.

Common Problems We Address with Hypnotherapy for Migraines

Hypnosis offers practical strategies to address and alleviate migraine-related symptoms:

Reducing Severity of Headaches

Hypnosis helps diminish the intensity and frequency of severe headaches, promoting more pain-free days.

Alleviating Sensitivity to Stimuli

It provides you with techniques to manage sensitivity to light and sound, reducing discomfort during migraine episodes.

Easing Nausea and Vomiting

Hypnosis aids in calming the digestive system, lessening nausea and vomiting associated with migraines.

Managing Aura Symptoms

Hypnosis helps recognise and cope with aura symptoms, reducing anxiety and discomfort before the onset of a headache.

Minimising Disruptions to Daily Life

Migraine Hypnosis equips individuals with relaxation and pain management skills, enabling them to maintain daily activities and work commitments more effectively during migraine episodes.

Minimising Health Risks

Hypnosis promotes relaxation and stress reduction, improving sleep quality and potentially reducing migraine triggers related to sleep disturbances.

Addressing Stress and Anxiety

Hypnosis targets stress and anxiety, common triggers for migraines, helping to prevent the onset of episodes.

Relieving Tension in Neck and Shoulders

It incorporates relaxation techniques to release tension in the neck and shoulders, which can often exacerbate migraine pain.

Reducing Reliance on Medication

Hypnosis provides an alternative approach to managing migraines, decreasing the dependence on medication for relief and exploring complementary therapies.

Through these targeted approaches, hypnosis serves as a powerful tool in managing and reducing the impacts of migraines and chronic headaches, and provides migraine relief.

How Hypnotherapy for Migraines Works

There are many ways to deal with migraines, with relief options including painkillers, dark rooms, or avoiding triggers.

It’s not easy to know what triggers your migraine, and that’s where hypnotherapy comes in. With hypnotherapy, we can try to understand your exact stressors, and give your body effective ways to cope.

After a few sessions, episodes tend to become less frequent and more manageable. Together, we will ensure that your migraine headaches are no longer something you have to dread.

Types of Migraines

Vestibular Migraine

When a headache is accompanied by dizziness, balance issues, or a feeling that the room is spinning, you’re likely dealing with a vestibular migraine. That said, a vestibular migraine might not always come with a headache. Some additional symptoms include ear pressure, neck stiffness, or light sensitivity.

Ocular Migraine

If you experience a small blind spot in one of your eyes or other symptoms in your eyes, such as seeing things blurry or a shimmering patch, you may be suffering from an ocular migraine. You may or may not have eye pain, but you may feel very uneasy.

Hemiplegic Migraine

Feeling weak or numb on one side of your body is a sign of a hemiplegic migraine. It might affect the entire area or just your limbs. The weakness or numbness might be temporary, however, the headache and visual changes can persist.

Migraine with Brainstem Aura

If you’re suffering from a migraine with Brainstem Aura, there are a few symptoms you might feel before you get the headache, like slurring in your speech, a ringing sound in your ears, or double vision. These symptoms occur due to unusual brainstem activity and usually pass after some time.

Silent Migraine

When you’re experiencing symptoms of a migraine, such as nausea, dizziness, or mental fog, but without the headache, it’s often dismissed or misdiagnosed. However, this type of migraine, known as the silent migraine, needs medical attention and should not be ignored.

Abdominal Migraine

This kind of migraine is more common in children. The symptoms include stomach pain, nausea, or even vomiting. These episodes can range from hours to days. During the period between these episodes, the child may feel completely fine.

Status Migrainosus

This is the kind of migraine that won’t go away. It lasts for more than 72 hours and doesn’t respond to the usual medications. If you have this kind of migraine, you may end up in the hospital for fluids or pain relief.

Sinus Migraine

If you’ve been told it’s sinus pressure but antibiotics don’t help, it could be a sinus migraine. You may feel facial pain, congestion, and a runny nose along with the typical migraine symptoms.

There’s no cure for migraines, but they can be managed with the right kind of support. Hypnotherapy doesn’t stop the neurological process behind migraines, but it helps reduce the stress, tension, and emotional triggers that can set them off. For many people, that means fewer flare-ups and a better quality of life.

Migraine Hypnotherapy FAQs

Can hypnotherapy actually reduce how often I get migraines?

Many of my clients have experienced fewer episodes, however this isn’t guaranteed. Hypnotherapy doesn’t cure the condition, but if stress or emotions are triggering them, we can reduce the number of episodes.

What happens during a migraine hypnotherapy session?

During a hypnotherapy session, you’ll be guided into a deeply relaxed state. We’ll then work on identifying the patterns and your response to them.

Will I still need to take medication?

Hypnotherapy is not a cure for migraines and so should be used with medication, not in place of it. The goal is to reduce how often you need to rely on medication.

How soon will I notice a difference?

Some people feel a shift after a few sessions, and some take longer. Your recovery depends on what’s triggering your migraines and how your body responds to our work together.
